Two charities - two scarves

I've often mentioned my Itty Bitty Knits group on Ravelry, especially our monthly charities. Since the host chooses the charity I have done a variety of knitting, but it is unusal to have two similar charities in back-to-back months as is happening for July and August. I've knit for both before, but they've been spread further apart giving me more time to work on these larger projects.

The July charity is for an orphanage in Kenya that one of the members travels to and supports. Although she will not be visiting this year due to the pandemic, she is still collecting scarfs for a future visit.

This simple scarf, One Skein Wonder by Amanda Kremer is available on Ravelry as a free download. I used two skeins of Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton and once you get past the set-up rows there is a four row repeat that is easy to remember which makes the scarf knit up quickly. It was the perfect TV knit.

Our August charity is the Red Scarf Project. One of our members is a professor at a local college and has had former foster children in her classes. These scarfs are part of the college care packages the parent charity, Foster Care to Success sends to first year college students who are making the transition from foster care to adulthood. Imagine dealing with the stress of college with no family support.

The pattern is Yarn Harlot's One Row Handspun Scarf available on her blog. Simple and easy, if not boring (but she does warn you ahead of time that it is). Details can be found on my Ravelry project page.

Of the two the Mint shawl was my favorite, but I also know that come next year's Red Scarf Project I'll likely make yet simple and easy (and boring) scarf.
