So many hats....

Just a quick update about the Hats for Sailors project I've been writing about.  The group collected 966 hats! An amazing number, although I suspect a few more may have trickled in after the official count. The group's coordinator literally has hats overflowing out of closets and boxes until it is time for the official group photo. She then sorts and ships them to the selected ship(s). This year's recipients are the USS Leyte Gulf and the USS Farragut.

Looking at the photo and trying to find any of the hats I've sent is like finding a needle in a haystack. I did manage to find a few (which I've circled).

I've already finished up one hat for next year.  My goal is to send at least 20 hats next year. Fingers crossed I can make it happen.

  1. That is an amazing amount! Do the sailors get to wear these any time then even on duty?

    1. The sailors are only allowed to wear these hats during off duty times. The interior of the ship can get pretty cold, even in the summer.
