Mistakes and Modifications

Mistakes? Knitters often like to call our mistakes "design modifications". But realistically I often make mistakes, which drives me crazy. I almost always figure out a way to fix it or, if necessary, rip back and reknit.

This blue hat started off as an entirely different pattern, which I was completely unhappy with. So...I ripped it all the way back to the ribbing and went searching for pattern with a similar cast on stitch count and 1x1 ribbing. I then modified the pattern to make the hat work (or at least work for me).

The yarn is Cascade 220 Superwash and the pattern is available for free on the Nurturing Fibres website.

The pattern for this red hat offers two versions, one for worsted and another for DK yarn. Since I was using Cascade 220 Superwash, which knits up closer to DK (in my opinion), I made the mistake of knitting the DK, but then looking at the worsted for the number of cable repeats. Thus the hat is a snug beanie. But I think that's okay. There will be someone who has a smaller head (like me) who will still want to wear it.

The pattern for the red hat is available for free on Smariek Knits' Blogspot. Details for both hats can be found on my Ravelry project page.
